Terre de Mistral – Fanette 2016 (IGP Méditerranée)

The estate:

Serge Davico is the manager of this estate, located very close to the Sainte Victoire mountain. Accompanied by his eighty-three-year-old father who is, remarkably, still working on a daily basis in the vineyard, Serge has made rosé his specialty. Each cuvee has its own identity and bears the name of one of the women of his family. We love it, and Terre de Mistral is already an integral part of our gastronomic plans for the summer!

Jean-Michel Deluc says:

I am deeply proud of this cuvee! First of all, “Terre de Mistral” is a part of an ongoing story: only two years ago I fell in love with this rosé, but there simply weren’t enough bottles to put them into boxes and share the experience. Then last year the wine came third in a competition of rosé wines. This year, everything has fallen into place and we’re delighted to finally be able to share it with you! Not only did it win the same competition this year, but now we also have a slightly different style with a touch of Muscat to help lighten it and add some perfume. The result is a beautiful bottle of rosé that reflects the terroir of the Montagne Sainte-Victoire that I so adore. I hope you love it as much as we do!

Wine and food pairing:

Grilled meats, cold meats, carpaccio, tartare, charcuterie, Red Mullet, Sea Bream, Fresh cheeses, Goats cheese, Red berries, Ratatouille, and grilled Italian vegetables

Tasting notes:

  • Ideal for: Aperitif, Family lunch, Brunch, Barbecue
  • Eye: A pale salmon-pink with brilliant silver reflections; visually very attractive and clearly very fresh!
  • Nose: The nose is fine, elegant and fresh with delicate notes of red fruits and flowers.
  • Mouth: On the palate the wine is soft and fruity, with a floral sensation in the flavour profile. A wine made of fruit and sunshine indeed!

Château de Corneilla – Domaine Jonqueres d’Oriola – Le Gaillard 2014

(AOP Côtes-du-Roussillon Les Aspres)

The estate:

Near the châteaux of the Cathars, Jonquères Philippe d’Oriola gives shape to this remarkable style of wine, with respect for both nature and tradition. The name still means a lot to this day, signifying the pride of this Catalan land and the sporting achievements of Pierre Jonquères d’Oriola and Christian d’Oriola, as they won numerous Olympic medals in the arts of riding and fencing!

Jean-Michel Deluc says:

A wine made for pleasure! At Château de Corneilla, fun and quality are the objectives so they try not to take ourselves too seriously, but at the same time ensuring that the wines are made to the best of their ability. This cuvee is a blend of the very best Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre on the Aspres terroir: 50% Syrah, for freshness and finesse, 25% Grenache for weight and fruit and finally 25% Mourvèdre for character and complexity. A full-on wine that you can easily appreciate in its youth but which will bloom over the course of its life, if you have the power to resist opening a bottle up immediately, that is!

Wine and food pairing:

Poultry, spaghetti bolognese, duck parmentier, and Boursin.

Tasting notes:

  • Ideal for: Family lunch, Dinner, Barbecue, Party
  • Eye: The colour of wine goes from bluish black to violet with youthful shades of purple; there’s virtually no sign of evolution. A deeply concentrated style of wine
  • Nose: On the nose, the wine expresses both its youthfulness and its complexity with a fruity, spicy collection of aromas including menthol and dark chocolate; lovely!
  • Mouth: On the palate the wine is rich and round, with flavours of black fruits, spices over crisp, well defined tannins.
Grapes: Syrah, grenache, mourvèdre
Serve at: 17°
Decanting: 2h
Alcohol: 14%
Sulphites: No

Le Petit Ballon Subscribers: £12.90 per bottle
